AQVR 425-2 40-pp. booklet For the 210th anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901), three Russian versions of his operas are published here for the first time - «Otello», «Il Trovatore» and «La Battaglia di Legnano». This edition of Verdi’s operas «Otello» and «Il Trovatore» continues our publication of rare Leningrad opera performances, which began with the release of two broadcast recordings of Tchaikovsky’s «Eugene Onegin» (with Ivan Kozlovsky and Sergei Lemeshev). The unique recording of «Otello» presented in this album has never been published before, is virtually unknown1 and provides us with the rare opportunity of hearing, for the first time, two outstanding singers of the Leningrad opera scene - Boris Geft and Alexander Modestov in main roles As a bonus we have included a selection of rare recordings of Verdi’s songs performed by Vladimir Makhov. | CD 1-2 «Otello» Opera in four acts, libretto by A.
